The White House Correspondents' Dinner is an annual event traditionally held in Washington, D.C., typically attended by the President of the United States, government officials, journalists, and celebrities. It serves as an opportunity for the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) to honor journalists who cover the White House and to raise money for journalism scholarships.

During the dinner, comedic entertainment is often provided by a professional comedian or entertainer who delivers a humorous monologue, often poking fun at politicians, the media, and current events. The President of the United States typically delivers a speech as well, offering remarks that can be humorous or serious in tone.

Over the years, the dinner has evolved into a significant social and networking event, drawing attention not only for its political and journalistic significance but also for its celebrity attendees and the entertainment provided.

However, it's worth noting that in recent years, the event has sometimes been subject to controversy and criticism, with debates about its appropriateness and the balance between humor and respect for the presidency and journalism.

Dunnigan-Payne Prize Plaque

The Dunnigan-Payne Prize was created in 2022 to raise up the achievements of Alice Dunnigan and Ethel Payne, the first two African American women to serve as members of the White House press corps. In the prize’s inaugural year, Ms. Dunnigan and Ms. Payne were the initial recipients of this award that will carry their names to honor the career achievements of White House correspondents.

The Dunnigan-Payne Prize, named after the military analysts William C. Dunnigan and Albert N. Payne, is awarded annually by the Military Operations Research Society (MORS) for outstanding contributions to the field of military operations research. Dunnigan and Payne were pioneers in the application of quantitative analysis to military decision-making. The prize recognizes individuals who have made significant advancements in operations research, military analytics, and related disciplines, with the aim of improving military effectiveness and decision-making processes. Recipients of the Dunnigan-Payne Prize are esteemed for their innovative research and practical contributions to military operations and strategy.
