Designing Greatness: The Football Coin Built for Ray Lewis - Hall of Fame

Football challenge Coin Built for Ray Lewis - Hall of Fame

Before it was metal, it was legacy. And when the Pro Football Hall of Fame came calling, we were ready to bring the heat.

OH WE’RE BRINGING THE HYPE FOR THIS ONE.

We’ve had loud design days before—but this? This one came at us with the force of a fourth-quarter goal-line stand and the emotional gravity of a bronze bust in Canton. We are currently SCREAMING in Helvetica Bold.

Because this isn’t just football. This is LEGACY. And no one carries that legacy quite like the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It’s not a museum. It’s a cathedral. A sacred archive of cleats, cracked helmets, and impossible stories—where greatness gets chiseled into immortality, and where the air is forever laced with the smell of turf, sweat, and destiny. (Too much? NEVER.)

Every exhibit, every artifact, every whispered “Remember when?”—it all points to one truth: this game shapes people. The Hall doesn’t just preserve stats. It preserves moments. The kind that made fans believe, made kids dream, and made grown men cry in shoulder pads. It champions values—Integrity. Respect. Excellence. The kind that don’t show up on the scoreboard but echo long after the final whistle.

And if we’re talking echoes, then we HAVE to talk about Ray Lewis. NOT JUST a linebacker (there, we said it differently). More like a hurricane in cleats. The energy? Uncontainable. The passion? Unmatched. The speeches? LEGENDARY. You didn’t just watch Ray Lewis—you felt him. Like a seismic event every time he stepped on the field. Like a thunderclap in a Ravens jersey. He wasn’t playing the game. He was the game.

Seventeen seasons of dominance. A defensive anchor. A team motivator. A living lesson in perseverance, grit, and pregame goosebumps. The man walked onto that field with fire in his eyes and left with two Super Bowl rings, 13 Pro Bowl nods, and stats that read like a cheat code: 2,061 total tackles, 41.5 sacks, 31 interceptions. Oh, and he’s the only player in NFL history with 40+ sacks and 30+ picks. Like, WHO DOES THAT?

So now we’re deep in the design zone—research tabs open, coffee refilled (twice), arguing about which number is more iconic—13 Pro Bowls or that Super Bowl MVP nod. (Spoiler: IT’S ALL ICONIC.) Because this story? This legacy? It deserves more than a quick sketch and a nod to Canton.

It deserves something that hits like a Ray Lewis tackle—full force, full heart, unforgettable.

Two Football Challenge Coins. One Unstoppable Legacy.

Alright—deep breath—because designing not one, but two football challenge coins for Ray Lewis (THE Ray Lewis!!) was the kind of project that makes your heart race and your sketchpad shake. We were HYPED. We were humbled. We were Googling clips of that pregame dance for "inspiration" (okay, fine, for fun too). The mission? Capture the grit, the glory, the goosebumps of #52. And YES, we brought our A-game.

Smaller Ray Lewis Challenge Coin

Let’s talk about the smaller coin first—it’s got that classic, no-nonsense energy. Pure gold finish, front and center: Ray in his Ravens jersey, ready to hit like a freight train with feelings. The alternating black and white ring? A bold nod to Baltimore's colors—clean, crisp, and full of fight. Around the edge, we engraved the career timeline like a stat sheet carved in stone: “Ray Lewis Baltimore Ravens 1996 to 2012.” And we couldn't not include the Ravens helmet and that iconic 52—because let’s be real, that number deserves its own anthem. The Class of 2019 banner sits at the bottom like a victory lap in metal.

Reverse Side – Pro Football Hall of Fame Tribute

Flip it—and here’s where legacy gets loud.

The reverse hits straight to the heart of legacy: the Hall of Fame logo at the center, surrounded by phrases that don’t just talk football—they talk VALUES. “Celebrate Excellence.” “Honor the Heroes of the Game.” YES, PLEASE. We squeezed in his biggest milestones in ultra-tiny print (seriously, it took tweezers and tea breaks): from Super Bowl MVP to Defensive Player of the Year (twice!) to Pro Bowl dominance across three decades. Literal legend status, immortalized in layers of detail.

  • NFL Defensive Player of the Year (2000, 2003)

  • NFL First-Round Draft Pick

  • Super Bowl MVP (2000)

  • Super Bowl Champion (XXXV, XLVII)

  • Pro Bowl Selections Across Three Decades (1990s, 2000s, 2010s)

Larger Ray Lewis Challenge Coin

Then there’s the bigger coin—and oh baby, this one PREACHES. We started with that same fearless image of Ray on the front, but this time we wrapped it in Scripture: “For many are called, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:14, for anyone flipping through their Bible while holding a linebacker coin. Just us?) It’s heavy. In the best way. His number, his position, his era—it’s all there, anchoring the moment like he anchored that defense.

Reverse Side – Expanded Career Achievements

Now spin it, because the back hits just as hard

It’s Ray, face forward, fierce and focused. We swapped the Hall logo for his own likeness, because why wouldn’t you want his game face staring down from your collection? Around him: every accolade, every record, every decade-spanning Pro Bowl stat that made the sports world stop and say, “WHOA.” From sacks to interceptions, Super Bowl rings to first-round dreams—this coin carries every single impact he left on that field.

  • Super Bowl MVP (2000)

  • Selected 13 Times for the Pro Bowl

  • Only Player with 40+ Sacks & 30+ Interceptions

  • NFL First-Round Draft Pick

  • Super Bowl Championships (XXXV & XLVII)

  • Pro Bowl Selections Over Three Consecutive Decades (1990s, 2000s, 2010s)

  • NFL Defensive Player of the Year (2000, 2003)

If you’ve ever wanted to feel what it means to be legendary… just hold this in your palm. It'll talk back.

This football coin carries every ounce of Ray Lewis’s legacy—and then some
